How can you help the China Digital Image Archive?
Hosting and delivering so many images takes a lot of disk space
and bandwidth transfer. Until now, Sinomania! has offered images
in an old-fashioned "directory tree" entirely for free.
The China Digital Image Archive is by far the largest and most expensive
component of the Sinomania! website. Unfortunately, that access
was abused as bandwidth was "stolen" by other websites,
blogs, bulletin boards, and individuals, who linked directly to
the images or downloaded the images without our consent.
But we believe that access to the images should remain free in
keeping with the true spirit of the Internet. Soon the new China
Image Archive will debut and feature photo galleries and even more
images. But your assistance is needed. Please consider a donation
in any amount so that we may keep access free and all these wonderful
images available to students, researchers, and everyone with a keen
interest in China. You can make a one time donation or donate a
regular amount as a voluntary subscription by using the buttons
below. Thank you.
You can easily make a donation of $5 per month via PayPal by
clicking on the button below:
A one-time contribution in any amount is also greatly appreciated.
Our PayPal "send to" address is "shop (at) sinomania.com"
You can also send a check or money order c/o Ben Calmes, PO Box 124603,

About the Sinomania! China Digital Image Archive
The China Digital Image Archive is an attempt to save China's vanishing
visual record. For much of the past 150 years China was in tumult
and devastated by wars. Drawings, paintings, photographs, maps,
and printed materials of all types were lost, stolen, or destroyed.
Each day the dwindling record of China's past is auctioned off on
Ebay, sold in antique shops all over the world, or thrown away in
a clean up. The originals may vanish or disintegrate but by saving
a digital image we can help preserve these interesting and important
records for future generations. Please support this effort by donating
any amount using the buttons above.
